De este modo, lo que pueden y no pueden hacer y hasta d\u00f3nde les est\u00e1 permitido llegar en cuanto a prestaciones, tanto de velocidad como de capacidad de almacenamiento de informaci\u00f3n, viene determinado por las leyes de la f\u00edsica. Es decir, cuestiones aplicables a los dem\u00e1s procesos f\u00edsicos, tales como: \u00bfCu\u00e1nta energ\u00eda se requiere para efectuar un determinado c\u00f3mputo? \u00bfCu\u00e1l es la base de representaci\u00f3n de la informaci\u00f3n \u00f3ptima? \u00bfCu\u00e1les son los l\u00edmites del espacio de memoria?, etc\u00e9tera. Pues bien, hasta el presente ha sido m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil plantear est\u00e1s preguntas que responderlas.<\/p>\n<p>La mec\u00e1nica cu\u00e1ntica proporciona una respuesta simple a la cuesti\u00f3n de cu\u00e1n r\u00e1pido puede procesarse la informaci\u00f3n\u00a0 usando una determinada cantidad de energ\u00eda. Por su parte, la mec\u00e1nica estad\u00edstica y la entrop\u00eda termodin\u00e1mica proporcionan un l\u00edmite fundamental al n\u00famero de bits de informaci\u00f3n que pueden procesarse usando una cantidad de volumen confinado en un volumen dado. La energ\u00eda disponible, limita necesariamente la ratio a la cual un computador\u00a0 puede procesar la informaci\u00f3n. Similarmente, la entrop\u00eda m\u00e1xima de un sistema f\u00edsico determina la cantidad de informaci\u00f3n que puede procesar.
